Nouvelle en un sens, puisque l’architecture néoclassique de ce quartier contraste seulement avec les bâtiments médiévaux de la vieille ville que je vous ai montré dans mon précédent article. On retrouve ainsi les grilles en fer forgé et parfois d’imposantes colonnes comme celles de l’entrée du The Principal Edinburgh
Cet hôtel semble avoir été imaginé pour la gente masculine d’abord par son atmosphère chaleureuse et dense dans laquelle chêne, cuir et métal composent un monde brut et luxueux. Les chambres sont à l’image du reste avec un nec plus ultra : une vue imprenable dans les chambre deluxe. C’est l’expérience que j’ai voulu vivre : m’endormir et me réveiller au rythme du soleil, face à la ville, à la mer et aux montagnes. Le premier soir, on a joué la carte corporate en dînant ave Thomas dans le restaurant Printing Press & Kitchen . Première surprise la salle du restaurant, seconde la carte : de prix particulièrement raisonnables pour d’excellentes assiettes. avec un riz au lait garni de figues. Un régal. Le hasard m’étonnera toujours puisque ce soir-là il y avait une Xmas party organisée par Marks & Spencer, pour qui j’ai récemment travaillé.
L’hôtel est situé sur Goerge Street c’est-à-dire l’une des grandes rues où les Edimbourgeois font leurs emplettes. Hackett, Barbour, Harvey Nichol’s tout ça c’est à deux pas mais il y a aussi beaucoup de petits cafés et de pubs, dans ces mythiques sous-sols qui avant servaient de cuisines. J’avais systématiquement envie de « faire un pause » pour tous les découvrir mais avec une telle vue depuis ma chambre, je ne rêver que de hauteur. Donc on a très vite pris la direction de Calton Hill, petite copine sur laquelle trône le National Monument of Scotland érigé en l’honneur des soldats écossais qui se sont battus contre notre cher Napoléon ! Au sommet il y a même un grand belvédère, un cadre idyllique plein de poésie.

UK// Today I take you to a wonderful hotel located in the heat of the Edinburgh New Town. New only because of the Victorian architecture that is really different than the one of the old town you have seen in a previous post. There are some huge neoclassical columns such as the ones of The Principal Edinburgh entrance.
This hotel seems to be made by and for men through the warm, deep atmosphere you feel when you come in this world full of oak, leather and iron furnitures. The rooms are also amazing and even more if you book the Deluxe one. Actually I discovered such an unbelievable city-sea view when I opened the door. Awakening at the sun rhythm has no equal. By night I preferred being corporate and try the restaurant of the hotel that is need Printing Press & Kitchen where I spent a very nice time. milky rice with figue tops. So delicious and vegetarian !
The Principal stands on George St. that means I was in the dynamic quater with many stores like Hackett, Barbour and Harvey Nichol’s and I did have a crush on all the little cafés and pubs in these typical basements that used to be kitchens. However I did not visit them so much because I preferred targeting the Calton Hill to stay as high as I was in my room. At the top of the hill you can be closer to the National Monument of Scotland and wandering a bit until a big belvedere. Poetic, romantic, idyllic by the way you know what I want to mean.
